Norsk Titanium produces structural additive titanium preform for US Defense market

Norsk Titanium (OTCQX:NORSF) has announced the delivery of a Rapid Plasma Deposition (RPD) preform to the US Defense market.

The metal 3D printing company said its engineers developed a near-net-shape preform for a structural wing component as part of a larger development effort with partner General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc (GA-ASI).

“Our goal with this effort was to prove out our DoD (Department of Defense) facility and secure environment, leverage our existing SAE AMS (Aerospace Material Specifications) material specifications, and improve our RPD Builder capability, all while showing GA-ASI we can provide savings as compared to a traditional forging development or machining a large component like this out of forged plate,” Norsk Titanium (OTCQX:NORSF) vice president commercial Nicholas Mayer said in a statement.

“We have accomplished those goals.”

The company noted that by leveraging existing industry specifications and its RPD Builder computer aided manufacturing (CAM) tool, Norsk was able to provide GA-ASI with an additive alternative to traditional long lead TI-6-4 forgings for this development effort.

Norsk added that as part of this effort, it will continue the manufacturing plan of the component, ultimately delivering a finished product, ready for a series of maturation test campaign by GA-ASI in preparation for a potential installation and flight test on a GA-ASI platform at a later date.

Norsk Titanium (OTCQX:NORSF) has a booth (F42) in Hall 3 at the 54th Paris Airshow being held from June 19-23, 2023.

Based in Hønefoss, Norway, Norsk is a global leader in Directed Energy Deposition (DED) additive manufacturing for aerospace-grade structural titanium components.
