Manchester United is negotiating granting exclusivity to a consortium led by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani as his US$6bn edges closer, according to Reuters.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the Glazer family would be exiting the English Premier League club entirely as part of the deal.
Reuters notes that Sheikh Hamad al-Thani’s US$6bn is viewed more favourably than the proposal put forward by Ineos owner Jim Ratcliffe, which would involve the US family retaining some control.
Shares in Manchester United, which is listed in New York, surged earlier this week after rumours the Qatari bid was successful.
Manchester United is currently 8.5% higher to US$25.08.
