Eden Research inks Colombia flower deal

Eden Research PLC (AIM:EDEN, OTCQB:EDNSF) has chosen Anasac Colombia as the exclusive distributor for its biopesticide, Mevalone, in the South American country.

This selection comes ahead of a pending regulatory application that, if approved, would allow the use of Mevalone to treat ornamental plants, including freshly cut flowers, to prevent and treat Botrytis cinerea infection.

"We expect this initial target application to be the first of many to come in Colombia as we seek to expand the Mevalone label to other crops and disease targets," said Eden chief executive Sean Smith in a statement.

"Our continued territorial push across mature and emerging markets underlines our commitment to serving the growing global demand for sustainable disease and pest control in horticulture," he added.

Botrytis cinerea is a common fungal infection in both growing and harvested flowers, affecting their lifespan and aesthetic quality.

Given Colombia's warm and humid climate, the use of fungicides such Mevalone is commonplace, particularly for flowers destined for export.

The country is a major player in the global cut-flower market, ranking as the second largest exporter in the world.

In 2021, it shipped cut flowers valued at $1.73 billion, with the US accounting for $1.35 billion of those purchases.

This is a significant part of Colombia's export market, with cut flowers listed as the sixth most exported product.

The Latin American biopesticides market, within which this agreement takes place, is on an upward trajectory. A study by Mordor Intelligence suggests this market could expand by 13.8% between 2020 and 2025.

Anasac, Eden's chosen distributor, already has an impressive record of product delivery across 19 countries including Mexico,
