The US Fed is the big news of the week, with the decision coming late on Wednesday.
The Fed is not currently expected to join the ECB in further hiking interest rates next week, especially if US inflation figures cool.
At present, the Fed is expected to keep rates at 5.25%, with chair Jerome Powell strongly hinting back in the early May meeting that after raising rates from near zero over the past 14 months, policymakers could pause at the June meeting.
For investors in UK shares, there are a smattering of small cap releases, with perhaps the biggest company news likely to emanate from Shell PLC (LSE:SHEL, NYSE:SHEL) capital markets day.
This event will spotlight how the group intends to balance its green aims against the huge profits currently being generated by its oil and gas businesses, amid accusations of foot-dragging, though analysts predict management will make a commitment to hand more cash out to shareholders.
We may also see a cameo from climate change protesters, at the oil giant's AGM a number of activists attempted to disrupt proceedings.
