Ashtead's results will be good but what about this year?

Ashtead Group PLC (LSE:AHT) is almost a touchstone for the health of the US economy as around 85% of its sales and 90% of its profits come from its Sunbelt operation that is based there.

Worries therefore about a US recession will be the focus when it reports on Tuesday.

Not that you would know that from the plant hire group’s guidance, which consistently has been for rising sales growth and earnings.

Most recently, Ashtead said a sales growth target of 18% to 21% for the year just ended would be beaten.

As a result, analysts are looking for 20% sales growth to US$7.9bn and expect guidance for a 13% advance to US$8.9bn in the current year.

Profits are set to come in at US$2.2bn, an impressive 33% rise, with the following year seeing a 12% increase to US$2.5bn on consensus forecasts.

Finals are due on 13 June (Tuesday).
