Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is recalling more than 125,000 cars after three models were found to be at risk of setting fire.
Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of Escape SUVs, Maverick pickups and Lincoln Corsair luxury SUVs suffer an issue that means engine fluid leaks can leak and catch fire.
Hybrid vehicles pose an additional threat as the electric motor can continue working despite the engines failing, a Ford filing to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed.
Models from 2020 to 2023 for Escapes, 2022 to 2023 for Maverick models and 2021 to 2023 for Corsairs have all been recalled.
Last year, these vehicles were recalled for the same reason with car dealers then making alterations that allowed for drainage of fluid or gas leaks.
Ford has been experimenting with new methods of prevention but the car giant is yet to make a breakthrough.
28 fires in total have occurred in Ford vehicles, five of which happened in the year after they were previously recalled.
Shares have remained subdued in pre-market trading for Ford, with the price just below US$13.
