Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE:GSCU) said it has commenced high-resolution aeromagnetic surveys at its Especularita project in Chile.
Two magnetic surveys are planned, covering each of its Teresita and Victoria prospects where outcropping high-grade copper and gold mineralisation was recently identified.
A drone will be used for the survey to reduce carbon emissions, with results expected in 8-10 weeks including processing and interpretation.
The surveys are designed to identify and delineate potentially high-grade, vein and breccia-type copper/gold deposits.
In a statement, Sam Garrett, Great Southern Copper chief executive, commented: "We are very pleased to commence our first magnetic surveys at the Teresita and Victoria prospects.
“Recent exploration work at the prospects suggests that the alteration associated with the high-grade Cu-Au mineralisation is both non-magnetic and magnetite-destructive whereas the surrounding wall rocks are magnetic.
“Therefore, we expect that zones of potential mineralisation will be visible in the magnetic data.”
Garret noted that results from the surveys will form the basis of drill targeting for scout drilling later in the year.
