Apple unveils Vision Pro, its highly-anticipated AR headset

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has unveiled the launch of its latest innovation, Apple Vision Pro, a spatial computer that merges digital content with the physical world.

The device allows users to maintain presence and connectivity while experiencing an entirely new level of interactive computing.

Vision Pro introduces the world's first spatial operating system, visionOS, which enables users to engage with digital content as if it were physically present in their surroundings.

Apple Vision Pro will retail at US$3,499 and will be available early next year on apple.com and at Apple Store locations in the US, with more countries coming later next year.

The design of Vision Pro boasts an ultra-high-resolution display system with an impressive 23 million pixels spread across two displays with a unique dual-chip configuration, powered by custom Apple silicon.

In a statement, Apple CEO Tim Cook told investors that the launch “marks the beginning of a new era for computing.”

“Just as the Mac introduced us to personal computing, and iPhone introduced us to mobile computing, Apple Vision Pro introduces us to spatial computing. Built upon decades of Apple innovation, Vision Pro is years ahead and unlike anything created before — with a revolutionary new input system and thousands of groundbreaking innovations.”

Apple’s vice president of technology development Mike Rockwell told investors that the device is “the most advanced personal electronics device ever.”

“It unlocks incredible experiences for our users and exciting new opportunities for our developers,” Cook added.

One of the key features of Vision Pro is its ability to transform how users engage with their favorite apps, Apple noted. The visionOS offers a three-dimensional interface that allows apps to appear side by side at any scale. It will give users infinite screen real estate, enhanced multitasking capabilities, and a productivity boost.

Apple shares were down 1% following the announcement to trade around US$179 apiece in New York.
