Ryanair carries 17mln passengers in May, up 10%

Ryanair Holdings PLC (LSE:RYA) carried 17.0mln passengers in May, a 10% rise from the 154mln it transported a year ago.

The Irish carrier reported a 2 percentage point increase in its load factor to 94% from 92%.

The firm said it operated over 94,400 flights in May 2023 but lost over 300 flights due to strike action hitting around 54,000 guests.

On a rolling 12-month basis, passenger numbers are 39% higher at 171.9mln with the load factor 10 percentage points higher at 94%.

Last week, Ryanair predicted its passenger numbers will almost double in ten years as it swung strongly into profit in the financial year just ended.

Revenues at the Irish carrier jumped 124% to €10.8bn as fares rose compared to a 75% hike in costs, a gap that helped after-tax profits to recover to €1.43bn from Covid-dominated losses of €355mln the year before.
