Wizz Air Holdings PLC (AIM:WIZZ) carried 22% more passengers in May compared to a year ago, while the total number of travellers using the carrier rose by 59% year-on-year on a rolling 12-month basis.
The central Europe-focused airline said it had significantly expanded its Polish routes in May and also boosted the number of flights to Albania, Prague and Skopje.
Wizz Air carried just over five million passengers (5.03mln) during the month, at a load factor (seats filled per flight) of 90.2%, up from 84.2% in the 2022 comparison.
Capacity or seats available over the 12 months increased by 43% to 59.8mln.
Growth has not been without cost, however, with the airline recently cited as having the worst record on lateness among UK departures for the second year in a row.
Wizz Air added it continues to operate with the lowest CO2 emissions per passenger/km among all competitor airlines, with 52.9 grams per passenger/km for the rolling 12 months to 31 May 2023.
The airline operates a fleet of 180 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.
Full-year results from the airline are due next Thursday, 8 June.
