Magnis Energy Technologies Ltd (ASX:MNS, OTCQX:MNSEF) is close to achieving UN38.3 certification for the cells produced by its Imperium3 New York (iM3NY) subsidiary, a significant milestone demonstrating the company’s commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Commercial cell production at the battery plant in Endicott, NY, started in August last year, with independent certification beginning in late 2022 following the completion of internal qualification processes.
iM3NY, in which Magnis has a 61% stake, has reported the successful completion of six tests required for the stringent UN38.3 certification, leaving just one – the Forced Discharge process – to be conducted.

UN38.3 is a United Nations standard that lithium batteries must meet to achieve certification for safe transport in large quantities, be it by air, sea, rail or road.
The final test, referred to as T8, is currently underway and will be completed after a seven-day observation period, following which an official report will be published within two weeks.
iM3NY’s achievement of the certification also means it meets the standards required by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the United States Department of Transportation (DOT).
