FTSE 100 up, house prices down - Market Report

Good morning from London, where the FTSE 100 is actually up today after the passing of a vote to lift the US debt ceiling.

Here in the UK Nationwide are saying that house prices fell by 3.4% during the year to May, with pressure on prices likely to continue owing to the high cost of mortgages.

Shares in shoemaker Doc Martens have fallen this morning after the firm reported a 26% drop in pre-tax profit during the year to March.

AutoTrader suffered a similar fate, as a squeeze on margins led to a 9% fall in the car seller’s operating profit over the course of last year.

Elsewhere, Companies House filings revealed Amazon’s UK division has not paid tax for the second year running after the online giant gained credits from infrastructure investments.

And in small caps, Shanta Gold shares climbed as the miner declared commercial production from its Tanzanian Singida site.
