JLEN Environmental hails first battery storage grid connection

JLEN Environmental Assets (LSE:JLEN) Group Ltd has hailed the moment its first grid-scale battery storage investment came online as a significant milestone.

FTSE 250-listed JLEN confirmed the Dundee-based 50MW lithium-ion plant had begun commercial operations and will now store power for the UK’s grid.

“The West Gourdie plant […] will provide critical balancing support,” JLEN said in a statement, “reducing system imbalance and volatility.”

Battery storage plays “a vital role” in decarbonising energy since more power can be used from weather-reliant “intermittent renewables”, JLEN investment manager Chris Tanner explained.

“Seeing JLEN's first battery storage investment become operational is a significant milestone for the company,” he added.

“We are pleased to have provided JLEN investors with exposure to this exciting asset class and look forward to advancing our other battery storage assets.”
