Galena Mining sets monthly ore mining and processing records at Abra Base Metals Mine

Galena managing director Tony James said: “Processing over 100kt through the mill and hitting our May concentrate shipment has been very rewarding for everyone working at the mine.”

Galena Mining Ltd (ASX:G1A) has achieved its May production ramp-up targets at the Abra Base Metals Mine, while simultaneously setting new monthly ore mining and processing records.

Subject to end-of-month reconciliation, Galena has achieved the following during May:

  • Processing plant milled over 100,000 tonnes and 6,400 tonnes concentrate produced;
  • second concentrate shipment of 5,052 dry metric tonnes completed on 30 May;
  • mined total ore and waste 110,000 tonnes (high-grade ore 77,000 tonnes); and
  • underground stope production mined 36,000 tonnes at 6.3% lead.

Galena managing director Tony James said: “Since the 3rd of May we have achieved continuous production taking a significant step forward as the mine ramps-up.

“Processing over 100kt through the mill and hitting our May concentrate shipment has been very rewarding for everyone working at the mine.

“We have quickly turned our attention to the next concentrate shipments in June and July and we are improving our overall production continuity and stope production on a daily basis.”

The Abra Base Metals mine, which is 60% owned by Galena, is a globally significant lead-silver project in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia, between the towns of Newman and Meekatharra, some 110 kilometres from Sandfire’s DeGrussa Project.

In 2019, Galena produced a robust definitive/bankable feasibility study for development of an underground mine and processing facility to produce a high-value, high-grade lead-silver concentrate.

A final investment decision to complete the project was made in June 2021 and construction was completed in December 2022, with the first concentrate produced in the first quarter of 2023.
