Channel 4’s boss, Alex Mahon, could receive the highest annual income for a CEO in the broadcaster’s history.
Mahon was awarded the maximum payout of £1.196mln last year by its remuneration committee, although she could be set to bank £1.4mln if she is deemed to have hit performance targets once again.
In 2021, the company reported a 21% growth in programme streaming views, with nearly a fifth of those coming from digital advertising.
As a result, the state-owned group, which overturned plans to take it private earlier this year, reported a 25% increase in revenue to £1.2bn, exceeding the £1bn mark for the first time ever, with a pre-tax surplus of £101mln.
Channel’s 4 board rewarded Mahon by upping the maximum annual bonus from 80% to 50% of her base salary in 2021 for her work in navigating the company through the pandemic.
According to the Guardian, the group’s performance in 2022 is expected to have fallen short of 2021 levels, although a 50% bonus to her base salary is still likely to see her become the best-paid executive since the broadcaster was founded 40 years ago.
