Amazon warehouse workers are being offered term-time only work, although the GMB Union said most employees just want better wages.
Parents and grandparents who work in Amazon warehouses will be able to choose to work during term time only.
As a result, parents can take off six weeks over the summer and two weeks at Christmas and Easter.
While the GMB Union welcomes the option of flexible working, most employees just want better wages.
However, Amazon’s regional operations director, Neil Travis, hopes that the flexible working arrangement will encourage more people back into the workplace and that those employees who take up the term-time only working will still be entitled to full-time benefits.
"We spent a lot of time listening to our employees and one of the things that we were learning is that they really wanted more flexible opportunities," Travis said in the BBC.
The new contract offer comes at a time when Amazon is attempting to stifle the GMB Union’s attempts to be the first trade union recognised in Europe by the company.
The online retailer said it prefers to talk directly to its 70,000 UK employees rather than go through a union.
So far this year, workers at Amazon in Coventry have been on strike for 16 days as they call for an increase in their hourly wage to £15.
