Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk is expected to visit China this week in his first trip to the country in three years, according to a report by Reuters citing three sources.
Per the report, Musk will meet senior Chinese officials and visit Tesla’s plant in Shanghai, the electric carmaker’s largest production hub.
Tesla and China's State Council Information Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment, Reuters said.
The trip would be Musk's first return to China since early 2022 when he showed off his dance moves at the launch of Tesla’s Model Y electric sports utility vehicle program at the Shanghai plant.
China is Tesla’s second-biggest market outside the US but the company is up against stiff competition from local automakers in a tightening market. Still, the company aims to increase output at the Shanghai plant and also recently announced plans to open a new megafactory focused on battery production, via a Tweet.

Musk told CNBC earlier this month that "there are some constraints on our ability to expand in China." He added: "It's not a demand issue."
In the same interview, Musk said tensions between the US and China "should be a concern for everyone."
