Deliveroo PLC (LSE:ROO) takeaway drivers protested outside of the group’s annual meeting on Wednesday, with the riders fighting for improved pay and better working conditions.
Demonstrators carried signs and banners as they chanted for better salaries outside of the AGM in Bishopsgate, London,
The anger from the delivery drivers was sparked by the huge wage packet founder and boss, Will Shu, received in its latest financial year.
Shu received a total salary of £625,000, a tough pill for investors to swallow when the company posted a £245.6mln loss in the same period.
The protestors could be seen carrying banners reading “Shame on Shu” and “£2.90 is not enough”.
The £2.90 is in direct reference to the minimum fee some drivers receive per delivery.
“Conditions are deteriorating constantly but my fees have never gone up since I started,” said one disgruntled worker.
Inside the offices of Bishopsgate, shareholders of Deliveroo voted in favour of all resolutions, including 99.9% backing the director’s remuneration report.
Shares in Deliveroo lifted by 1% on Wednesday, but since its IPO in April 2021, the group’s share price has lost around 60% of its value.
