Elon Musk warns of drone wars as he talks about the "double-edged sword of AI"

Elon Musk, the tech mogul who heads Tesla, Twitter, and SpaceX, has shared sceptical views on artificial intelligence (AI), warning it presents more risks than benefits.

During a conversation with the Wall Street Journal's CEO Council Summit in London, Musk portrayed AI as a "double-edged sword", potentially utilised for creating drone warfare.

According to Musk, governments worldwide are likely to employ AI for weaponry before any other applications.

He also suggested the technology is primed to quicken the decline of empires.

"There's a little late-stage empire vibes right now," he said.

Earlier this year, Musk joined a cohort of influential technology experts urging for a pause in AI development to ensure it doesn't pose a threat to humanity.

A letter demanding a six-month halt to AI system training was signed by over 1,000 people, reflecting the rising concerns about unchecked AI advancements.
