SSP Group plc (LSE:SSPG), the owner of food service brands like Upper Crust, will be bringing a BrewDog pub to London Gatwick Airport as part of a new partnership.
The BrewDog pub is expected to include Zoom pods, a game space and the brewer’s “signature design elements”, according to the company.
The catering company added it would provide a menu “tailored for the airport location” – hopefully not a reference to the high prices often seen at flight centres.
The company has numerous food stalls littered around popular transportation routes, including airports where it plans to also partner with British cuisine group, The Breakfast Club.
SSP, which employs 37,000 staff members, also confirmed it would be “accelerating the roll-out of digital order and payment systems” in its bars, restaurants, and fast-food outlets.
The food company said it would be continuing to “drive labour efficiency, conscious of the pressures on labour rates”.
“This will mean… using digital order and payment technology to drive service levels and efficiency,” SSP said in Tuesday’s trading update.
SSP did not comment on whether any new plans would result in job cuts.
Pre-tax profits reached £22.8mln for the six months to 31 March, a 141% jump from the £55.3mln loss the group experienced last year.
The company is confident it will achieve profits at the top end of its full-year guidance.
Patrick Coveney, chief executive officer at SSP said: “This has been a strong first half for SSP, and the ongoing revenue momentum across the business means that we are now expecting our performance for 2023 to be at the upper end of our previous assumptions.”
