UK tech billionaire Mike Lynch has been extradited to the US, the Home Office has confirmed, after losing a High Court appeal last month.
In a statement, the Home Office said: “Dr Lynch was extradited to the US on 11 May.”
The Autonomy founder now faces criminal charges over Hewlett Packard’s US $11bn acquisition of the company in 2011.
US computer maker Hewlett subsequently wrote down the value of the acquisition by US$8.8bn and accused Lynch and his management team of carrying out “a systematic and sustained scheme” to inflate its numbers.
Revenues, organic growth and profits were either falsified or misrepresented, HP alleged.
Lynch has always denied the accusations and has fought extradition by claiming that as Autonomy was a UK company any litigation should be brought here.
HP has already won a civil case against Lynch, with damages yet to be determined.
Sushovan Hussain, the software group’s chief financial officer, was convicted on criminal charges relating to the deal and is currently serving a five-year prison sentence in the US.
