Anyone heard of Linda Yaccarino? Nah, me neither. But, according to the US rumour mill, the head of ad sales at NBCUniversal has been tapped as the new chief executive of Twitter.
The appointment is yet to be confirmed, though sources close to Yaccarino appeared to confirm the veracity of the story.
Twitter owner and current CEO Elon Musk told his 139mln followers: "Excited to announce that I've hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks!"
However, he stopped short of naming the successful candidate.
So, who is Linda Yaccarino?
Well, she’s currently the chairman of global advertising at NBCUniversal.
According to her bio (as reported in the Washington Post), she leads a team responsible for over US$100bn in ad sales and partnerships.
Outside of that, the Pennsylvania State University graduate chairs the Taskforce on the Future of Work and sits on a committee for media, entertainment, and culture for the World Economic Forum.
Showing a propensity for political malleability, the Post reveals Yaccarino was appointed by president Trump to his Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition in 2018, and also collaborated with the Biden White House in 2021 for a coronavirus vaccine campaign.
She began her career as an intern at NBCUniversal's media planning department.
