Star Minerals Ltd (ASX:SMS) has mobilised to site and kicked off phase two reverse circulation drilling to further explore gold mineralisation at the Star of the East Project in Murchison.
The company’s drill program is planned to expand on the high-grade gold results from the initial reconnaissance drilling, and historical drilling and mining data.
Star’s maiden program at the project delivered high-grade gold hits, including:
- 14 metres at 8.3 g/t gold from 15 metres downhole, including, 8 metres at 14.2 g/t from 18 metres downhole;
- 6 metres at 4.95 g/t from 9 metres downhole; and
- 4 metres at 2.44 g/t gold from 16 metres downhole.
This work has been designed with the benefit of the results from the company’s earlier drilling at both Tumblegum South and Star of the East and demonstrates the intent of Star Minerals to quickly examine and test new projects.
"Exciting gold results”
Star CEO Greg Almond said: “We are excited to follow up on our first at Star of the East and looking forward to following up on some of the exciting gold results from our first phase of drilling.
“We are looking forward to results from this drilling program, and we believe we will be able to expand on the gold mineralisation we have defined from the initial drilling.
“Many of these historic mines, once believed to be mined out, prove to have a significant endowment once modern exploration techniques are employed, and we are confident that will be the case here.”
About the project
Star of the East is a historical high-grade gold mine in the Murchison, first mined in 1897 after discovery by prospectors.
The tenement E51/1561 contains remnant evidence of this historic work, including an old shaft. records indicate that the mine produced around 27,700 ounces of gold, working along a main lode down to around 50 metres in depth.
Star of the East lies only 2.2 kilometres from Star Minerals’ Tumblegum South gold project containing a historically reported inferred resource estimate of 600,000 tonnes, at a grade of 2.2 g/t gold.
The location of Star of the East is easily supported using the infrastructure and relationships the company has put in place to work on Tumblegum South.
