Sigma Lithium Corporation and representatives from the government of Brazil joined forces to ring the opening bell at Nasdaq MarketSite in New York, marking the launch of the Lithium Valley Brazil initiative.
The Brazil-focused company is dedicated to advancing the next generation of electric vehicle batteries with its Green Lithium solution.
Situated in Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais, an area with low human development indexes, Lithium Valley Brazil represents an unprecedented collaborative effort. The initiative aims to attract capital markets and private investments in the lithium battery supply chain, while also streamlining the development and construction of projects within the lithium mining and processing sectors.
By showcasing Brazil's leadership in sustainable critical minerals, Lithium Valley Brazil contributes to the global green energy transition.
The initiative is a consortium of Brazilian local and regional government agencies and four international lithium companies including Sigma.
"The growth of Lithium Valley Brazil will be our collective contribution for a greener planet and a more just society," said Sigma CEO Ana Cabral-Gardner. "It will bring prosperity to the people of Vale do Jequitinhonha by growing the lithium industry while ensuring the social economic development of the entire region."
Cabral-Gardner called Lithium Valley “our legacy.”

All of us are embracing the Lithium Valley as partners in bringing lithium from Brazil to the world, driven by capital markets and the private sector…Our children and grandchildren will be proud of us in the future."
Looking ahead, Lithium Valley Brazil will create favorable business conditions to grow Green Lithium production in Brazil. Simultaneously, the initiative will support the development of a green industrial footprint for the metal while addressing social development goals, including reducing income inequality in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region.
