Ilika jumps after making first stacked solid-state battery shipments

Shares in Ilika PLC (AIM:IKA, OTCQX:ILIKF) rose over 13% to 51p after it shipped its first stacked ultra-small batteries to customers, who waxed lyrical on the unique attractions of the Stereax cells.

Following the delivery of the first batch of its Stereax M50 cells to customer Blink Energy last month, today the solid-state battery pioneer said it had made the first shipments of Stereax M300 batteries with the cells in a stacked configuration.

Both customers wanted to use batteries as, despite being 1mm thick and with a footprint of 3.6mm by 5.6mm wide, they have high density and high power due to their solid-state nature and characteristics.

One of the customers is Lura Health, using the battery for a sensor to be embedded in dental retainers, dentures and implants to provide real-time health data to users' smartphones, another is CubeWorks, which is designing a sensing platform for biopharma cold chain logistics, security control, asset protection and environment monitoring, while terms on a deal with medical device maker Cirtec are still being finalised.
