FTSE 100 flat in early deals, JD Wetherspoon on course for record sales - Market Report

The FTSE 100 was flat in early deals with investors cautiously awaiting key US inflation data later today.

JD Wetherspoon said it is on course for record sales this year as customers flocked back to its pubs. The pub chain, ran by Tim Martin, now expects profits towards the top end of market expectations.

Elsewhere, Asos slipped to a first half adjusted loss before tax of £87.4mln although it remained upbeat in delivering full-year targets.

Outsourcing specialists Capita expects to take a £20mln hit from a recent cyber-attack on the firm. Shares were trading higher following an update in which it confirmed it is trading in line with expectations.

Among the small caps, David Beckham founded franchise Guild Esports trebled revenues in the first six months to March 2023. Losses also halved thanks to increased demand.
