PowerTap Hydrogen Capital Corp provided an update on its subsidiary, PowerTap Hydrogen Fueling Corp, which is working with Newport Realty Group (NRG) on a novel fueling station in California, which will have the newest technologies.
The planned NRG Fueling Station in East San Bernardino County will offer PowerTap hydrogen onsite production and dispensing, battery electric charging, and petrol options to meet the explosive demand for sustainable and cost-effective power solutions, said the company.
However, the fueling station still hinges on the company obtaining permits and completing sufficient financing to complete construction.
The fueling station’s location has limited grid power at the site. To overcome the challenge, PowerTap’s technical team has been working closely with the NRG to explore alternative solutions. The company said it is planning to upsize the PowerTap Gen3 modular hydrogen production and dispensing unit (MHPDU) and utilize the additional hydrogen produced to generate "clean electricity at high efficiency using fuel cells."
The “clean electricity” can then be used to “power EV charging stations and building loads on site,” reducing the dependence on grid power, noted the company. The fueling station is expected to have an estimated load of 10 megawatts (MW) at the site, including 1 or 2 MW from the PowerTap Gen3 MHPDU.

The station hopes to provide convenient refueling options for a range of cars from hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to battery electric and conventional cars.

“We look forward to creating a model fueling station that sets new standards for sustainability and efficiency."
Meanwhile, the company has retained DeFrancesco Motorsports for a year to raise market awareness of PowerTap's hydrogen-powered products and services. DeFrancesco will focus on making corporate introductions for PowerTap in order to drive development projects with car companies.
Vancouver-based PowerTap Hydrogen Capital, through PowerTap Hydrogen Fueling Corp, is focused on installing hydrogen production and dispensing fueling infrastructure in the US. PowerTap’s patented solution has been developed over 20 years. It is now commercializing its third-generation blue hydrogen product that will focus on the refueling needs of the long-haul trucking markets that lack hydrogen fueling infrastructure.
