Forward Water Technologies Corp (TSX-V:FWTC) told investors that it has licensed specific intellectual property from FUJIFILM Corporation so it can ensure the protection of its water treatment technology platform.
The company said the licensing agreement with FUJIFILM, undertaken by its wholly-owned Forward Water Technologies Inc subsidiary, will help combat the ongoing global water crisis by securing further clean water alternatives.
The company noted that FUJIFILM Corporation has extensive expertise in an array of water treatment technologies including the use of forward osmosis, a water separation process which uses a semipermeable membrane and the natural energy of osmotic pressure to separate water from dissolved solutes.
Additionally, it said FUJIFILM Corporation has created intellectual property through its industrial research that Forward Water is in a unique position to leverage, adding that it is important to ensure that all commercial avenues into the market are protected to position it as a leader in advanced forward osmosis membrane-based water treatment.
"Securing this license from FUJIFILM Corporation solidifies the unique right to practice the technology and further enhances and strengthens Forward Water's intellectual property protection in the marketplace on a global scale,” Forward Water president and CEO Howie Honeyman said in a statement.
Forward Water Technologies was founded by Green Centre Canada, a leading technology innovation center supported by the Canadian government. Its patented Forward Osmosis technology allows for the reduction of challenging waste streams while simultaneously returning fresh water for reuse or surface release.
