Sidus Space Inc (NASDAQ:SIDU) told investors that edge computing company Exo-Space has delivered hardware that it will integrate and test in preparation for the upcoming launch aboard the company’s LizzieSat satellites.
The company explained that Exo-Space’s FeatherEdge Data Processing Platform will be integrated into its hybrid 3D-printed satellite. On-orbit testing of the device in a space environment will provide proof-of-concept data, increase the product’s overall Technology Readiness Level, and establish integration processes for future collaborative missions.
“Sidus Space is excited about reaching this important milestone of delivery of the flight unit by Exo-Space as we continue our final integration and test campaign towards our upcoming launch,” Sidus' chief technology officer Jamie Adams said in a statement.
“The inclusion of compute-at-the-edge technology for space systems providing greater speed and precision of data to end users is a key discriminator in the market. Our ability to provide payload customers a rapid and affordable method to achieve space rating in a demonstrated relevant environment combined with earth observation data is the centerpiece of our Space-as-a-Service model,” Adams added.
While other edge computing companies are solely software-focused, Sidus noted that Exo-Space includes hardware and software, providing a platform where other software-based edge computing companies can deploy algorithms that create derivative products such as ultra-low latency insights for their customers.
It said the platform consists of a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) accelerated processing unit, hardware-and-software-based radiation protections, and an integrated thermal management system, providing one of the most robust computing environments available in space to date.
