Theme park fitter Deluxe Group plans £1.5mln expansion after winning US$40mln deals in the US

The Deluxe Group, which specialises in fitting out theme parks, cruise ships and hospitality venues, is planning a £1.5mln expansion after securing US export contracts worth over US$40mln.

The investment will see the Northern Ireland-based company build a new 40,000-square foot base near Belfast International Airport and new facilities in Portadown, BBC News reported.

The expansion will double Deluxe’s workshop capacity and add 30 new jobs to its existing 180-strong workforce,

The company is also opening a base in Orlando, Florida, USA.

"The growth of the emerging experience economy is driving unprecedented international demand for our specialist skills in design and prefabrication of themed attractions," said Colm O'Farrell, Deluxe's executive chairman in a statement, highlighting solid growth in the company’s joinery division.

"Northern Ireland has gained an international reputation for film and TV production but people might be surprised that some of the world’s most exciting attractions are being built here," he added.

Deluxe has previously fitted out sets and attractions for the Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Banbridge, Hotel Transylvania and Ghostbusters in Dubai, Jurassic World in Orlando and Mario Kart, an augmented reality giant-size version of the computer game at Super Nintendo World in Japan.
