Aclarion skyrockets on positive trial data for lower back pain intelligence platform

Aclarion shares skyrocketed after the company published data from a two-year trial that demonstrated improved surgical outcomes for discogenic lower back pain (DLBP) surgeries at chemically painful lumbar discs identified by Nociscan, the company’s intelligence platform for measuring pain biomarkers in the lumbar spine.

Nociscan receives magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) data from an MRI machine and uses its proprietary signal processing techniques to extract and quantify chemical biomarkers associated with disc pain, according to Aclarion.

When combined with other diagnostic tools, Nociscan can provide insights into the location of a patient’s lower back pain and in turn allow physicians to optimize their treatment strategies, the company said.

In the two-year, single-site study involving 78 patients, the success rate was 85% for patients whose treatment strategy was consistent with Nociscan-identified disks, a 22% improvement over patients whose treatment strategy was inconsistent with Nociscan-identified disks.

Nociscan was performed on all of the patients in the study but was not available in the surgical decision-making process, the company noted.

Aclarion said the results suggested that Nociscan provides insights that could help physicals successfully treat DLBP.

“The two-year surgical outcomes of the clinical trial are significantly clear on the primary (ODI) endpoint,” Dr Matthew Gornet, orthopedic surgeon and the study’s lead author, said in a statement.

“I believe Nociscan is something that will accurately help all physicians treating chronic low back pain, and I believe it can change the standard of care.”

Aclarion stock was up 136% at US$1.73 late morning on Monday.
