Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) was ordered Friday to pay more than $303 million in damages to computer memory firm Netlist (NASDAQ:NLST) Inc in a patent infringement case.
The case, decided by a federal jury in Marshall, Texas after a six-day trial, concerned multiple patents concerning improvements in data processing.
The jury found that Samsung's "memory modules" for high-performance computing willfully infringed each of the five patents that Netlist (NASDAQ:NLST) accused the Korean tech titan of violating.
California-based Netlist shares popped nearly 40% Monday morning to $5.56.
The company sued Samsung in 2021, asking for $404 million in damages and alleging that Samsung’s memory products infringe on its patents.
An attorney for Netlist told the jury that Samsung took its patented module technology after the companies had collaborated on another project, according to a court transcript.
