Ex-Asda boss rescues Farmison butcher from the brink

Ex-Asda chief executive Andy Clarke is set to become executive chairman at Farmison after leading a consortium to buy the online butcher out of administration on Monday.

Farmison will resume trading in the coming weeks, according to the consortium which includes executives from branding agency Chilli Marketing, following the appointment of FRP Advisory as administrator in early April.

Clarke, who was Asda boss between 2010 and 2016, said he believes Farmison has “the significant potential for growth,” with the butcher already having supplied the likes of Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges and Harrods.

“I’m very excited about Farmison’s prospects. We have an opportunity to scale this business and further develop both its direct-to-consumer and wholesale plans,” Clarke added.

Administrator FRP Advisory, which was appointed as Farmison’s 75 staff were laid off, hinted a number of “serious offers” have been proposed for the butcher.

The undisclosed offer from Clarke’s consortium “provides the best opportunity of both re-establishing the business and maximising returns to creditors” though, FRP said.
