Disney set to slash thousands of jobs next week

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) is planning to eliminate thousands of jobs next week, including about 15% of its entertainment division staff, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the plans.

The cuts will encompass television, film, theme parks, as well as corporate positions.

The expected announcement is in addition to the planned 7,000 job cuts Disney revealed back in February, which is part of a series of cost reductions targeted to save about $5.5 billion annually.

According to Bloomberg, some employees are expected to be notified of the cuts as soon as April 24.
