CULT Food Science Corp (CSE:CULT, OTCQB:CULTF) told investors it plans to use its patent-pending Bmmune protein source as one of the foundations for its pet food platform.
The company acquired Bmmune, an alternative protein source that has been patented for freeze-dried pet treats, in March 2022. The patent covers the functional and nutritional properties of Bmmune, which has been shown to improve digestion, gut health and immune system support, as well as cognitive, arterial and heart health.
"This is one of many foundational patents that CULT Food Science will utilize to continue to build the future of food,” CULT CEO Lejjy Gafour said in a statement. “The versatility of Bmmune will serve as a platform for multiple products.”
While most of the estimated US$99 billion pet food market globally uses farmed animal protein, CULT noted that pet food made including Bmmune shares the same environmental benefits of plant-based proteins, but can have higher levels of protein, and be more palatable and easily absorbed by dogs.
"It is still difficult to create pet foods that deliver premium, palatable nutrition to dogs and cats and have a low carbon footprint. With Bmmune, we've solved at least part of this complex problem," said CULT vice president of product development, Joshua Errett.
"We are now ready to supply Bmmune to plant-based and conventional pet brands as a way to enhance protein content, increase palatability, drive down ingredient costs and improve sustainability in pet foods,” he added.
