easyJet and THG results, plus US banks on Tuesday

With the first full week since the Easter break underway, Tuesday brings a whole host of big-cap results – both here in the UK and Stateside.

Budget airline easyJet PLC (LSE:EZJ) is expected to offer insight into its journey back to profitability as the travel sector continues its course to post-Covid recovery.

“Expectations are flying high,” Hargreaves Lansdown analyst Susannah Streeter commented, suggesting easyJet’s pre-tax losses should be “significantly” better than the £557mln penned in the first half of 2022.

The company is up more than 50% in the year to date, a similar rise to e-commerce group THG PLC (LSE:THG).

The company shot up 28% on Monday following news that it received a purchase offer from private equity firm Apollo Global Management.

Responding to press speculation, THG said it had received a "highly preliminary and non-binding indicative proposal".

Prior to this, a newly formed activist investor, Kelso Group Holdings PLC (LSE:KLSO), had announced in January that it had built up a stake in the company and had begun offering some helpful business advice.

Whether THG founder, major shareholder and boss Matthew Moulding is listening will be a point of focus on Tuesday - albeit less important now a takeover is on the horizon.

Over in the US, banking season is in full swing, with Bank of America Corp (NYSE:BAC) and Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) reporting following a bruising few months for regional lenders.

Investors will be keen to find out the extent to which the collapses of SVB and Signature Bank affected the Wall Street giants.

Pharmaceutical giant, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), and streaming firm Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) will also provide trading updates.

In macro matters, unemployment, wage and claimant count figures are all due.
