Berkshire Hathaway, owned by Warren Buffett, sold US$1.2bn worth of bonds in the yen currency, according to Bloomberg.
The investment company is one of the largest issuers of yen debt and paid higher costs to sell debt in the currency due to the burden for issuers created by the speculation about the Bank of Japan policy tightening.
All five tenors or terms paid higher spreads in comparison with a previous deal in December, with all-in costs of the latest deal reflecting a steeper jump in borrowing, Bloomberg reported.
The firm's five-year note was priced to yield 1.135%, almost seven times higher than what the company paid when it debuted in the yen bond market in 2019.
The proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for general corporate purposes, including refinancing some debt.
