Dan Snyder, owner of the National Football League (NFL)’s Washington Commanders, has reached a deal to sell the franchise to Apollo Global Management (NYSE:APO) co-founder Josh Harris for $6 billion, a source confirmed to CBS (NYSE:CBS) Sports.
The sale price would set an NFL record, surpassing last year’s previous high of $4.65 billion when the Walton-Penner group purchased the Denver Broncos.
Harris already owns the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and NHL's New Jersey Devils.
He is reportedly teaming up with DC-area billionaire Mitchell Rales as well as Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson as the team’s co-owners.
Puck News reported Wednesday that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was out of the running to buy the Commanders, despite having the financial resources to top most bidders.
Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos has also been involved in the bidding process, but there have been questions about his ability to fund a bid that would ultimately need to be approved by the league.
