Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is set to launch a driverless system in the UK, allowing motorists to take their hands off the wheel while travelling at speeds of up to 70mph.
Owners of the Mustang Mach-E, a fully electric SUV, will have to pay £18 a month to sign up for the US car manufacturer's “BlueCruise” system.
Once enabled, drivers can stop steering and let the vehicle use its radars and cameras to change speed, steer around bends and change position in lanes.
The technology will even allow the car to come to a complete halt in traffic jams.
Users of the service will be monitored by the system's infrared cameras to make sure they keep their eyes on the road.
The new technology was approved by the Department for Transport and can be used on most UK roads.
Other driverless systems are available in the UK such as Tesla’s autopilot, but these require motorists to always keep their hands on the wheel.
The announcement follows news that the Chinese ride-hailing firm, Didi, was developing a robotaxi concept car.

Called Didi Neuron, the car is being developed to have arms that can help passengers pick up bottles of water or transport luggage.
