Arecor Therapeutics PLC (AIM:AREC) has appointed Dr Manjit Rahelu as chief business officer with immediate effect.
Rahelu is an “accomplished strategic deal maker” with over 25 years of technical, commercial and financial experience, the biopharmaceutical company said.
Arecor added that he brings “extensive business development experience” in product-focused licensing and M&A, and while at Arecor he will oversee the group’s business and corporate development strategy.
“Manjit will play a key role in meeting our strategic goal to build a significant self-sustaining biopharmaceutical company,” said chief executive Sarah Howell.
Rahelu most recently founded and served as a partner for Alcheme Advisors, which supports early-stage businesses on development, strategy and optimisation projects.
Prior to this, he held the role of chief business officer and chief operating officer at Calchan, a UK biotech focused on developing novel molecules targeting pain and inflammation.
At Calchan, Rahelu oversaw the shaping and implementation of the group’s strategy, processes and infrastructure.
He also held the position of vice president of business development at Convergence Pharmaceuticals, playing a “pivotal role” in its £675mln sale to Biogen in 2015.
