Virgin Media up and running after outage kicks thousands off the internet

Virgin Media faced a broadband outage today which saw thousands of customers kicked off the internet.

Nearly 29,000 users reported issues with their service on the outage according to tracking website Downdetector.

The outages were widespread across the country as the map below shows.

The company tweeted: "We're aware of an issue that is affecting broadband services for Virgin Media customers as well as our contact centres.

“Our teams are currently working to identify and fix the problem as quickly as possible and we apologise to those customers affected.”

By mid-morning customers were reporting things were getting back to normal after a system reboot while others said the internet outage could be circumvented by connecting through a VPN.
