NetScientific focused on further value creation

NetScientific PLC (AIM:NSCI) said the main focus for 2023 will be progressing its portfolio companies through the platform, creating value and fees, and moving closer to exits and liquidity.

In 2022, the investment and commercialisation group focused on life science, sustainability, and industrial technology companies. It expanded its portfolio to 24 companies and expects a significant increase in fair value as of 31 December 2022.

Around £70mln was raised through equity and venture debt by 18 companies across the group's portfolio.

NetScientific's capital-light investment model saw modest direct equity investments of around £0.6 million and £5.3 million of third-party 'advised' investments with a carried interest across 11 portfolio companies.

Several portfolio companies achieved significant operational milestones and key fundraising events in 2022 with the group also strengthening its board and hiring strategically to expand transactional and portfolio management capabilities.

In the same announcement, NetScientific said it made progress in searching for a new chair and remains on track to announce the appointment ahead of the annual general meeting. After seven years with the company, professor Stephen Smith will retire from the board but is expected to remain an adviser to several life sciences portfolio companies.

"We have seen a 'heads down' dynamic and productive period for the group, including high levels of growth activity within our portfolio, driven by positive operational and financial milestones achieved across a number of key companies,” said NetScientific chief executive, Dr Ilian Iliev.

“As we continue to scale our activities utilising our capital-light investment model, we have also strengthened our board and wider team and improved our operating structures, corporate governance, and commercial reach. We are mindful of the transforming investment market environment, and are focused on real-world, evidence-based delivery."

Final results for the year are expected by the end of May 2023.
