Westar Resources Ltd (ASX:WSR) appears to be on the right track at the Gidgee North Project in the Meekatharra-Wiluna-Sandstone region of Western Australia, intercepting favourable geology in a maiden aircore drilling campaign.
The company drilled some 5,000 metres of aircore over multiple gold and copper-zinc anomalies within a sequence of sheared, faulted and folded greenstone-granite terrain.
Encouragingly, although assay results are yet to be received, WSR’s drilling intersected favourable rock formations known to host both gold and base metal mineralisation, adjacent to in-soil anomalies which the company views as “highly encouraging”.
Accelerated drilling program on the cards
“Westar is pleased to report on the completion of drilling activities for the maiden aircore program at the Gidgee North Project,” Westar Resources executive director Lindsay Franker said.
“Drilling has clearly demonstrated we are in the right rock types to potentially host gold and base metal mineralisation, and we plan to follow this maiden drill program up with an accelerated program subject to receipt of assay results.”
WSR’s drill program highlighted the central project area’s prospectivity for gold, while light grey metasediments discovered between the Geo and Vela prospects point to a possible extension of base metal mineralisation in that area, which previously produced drilling results of 15 metres at 0.23% copper and 16 metres at 0.33% zinc from 81 metres of depth.
Westar will await assay results from this latest round of drilling before planning the next stage of exploration and a follow-up drilling campaign.
