Amati Global Investors said it has selected Digbee, an environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure platform dedicated to the mining sector, as the preferred ESG accreditation solution for its £90mln TB Amati Strategic Metals Fund.
Launched two years ago last week, the fund offers investors exposure to precious metals and those metals being used in global cleantech and other decarbonisation technologies.
The Digbee ESG disclosure platform allows mining companies to be ranked according to their ESG efforts and investors can assess the merits of those achievements.
Mark Smith, one of the fund's managers, said ESG and common standards to assess companies "will be of paramount importance" in the investment analysis process for the mining sector.
Digbee "provides the integrity and analysis needed to start a conversation – that mining is needed for ESG and to deliver net zero", he said.
As the mining industry has used various ESG parameters for decades in the form of community social relations (CSR), Smith said the mining community needed to "have a louder voice if they are to showcase their achievements".
The world’s energy transition, including renewable energy systems, battery storage and electrification, are expected to require trillions of dollars of various minerals and metals.
"This is the ‘green paradox’ and investment opportunity – you simply can’t have decarbonization without mining," said Smith.
Therefore, he said, ESG and common standards to assess companies, such as those used on the Digbee platform, will be of "paramount importance" in the investment analysis process going forward.
