British autonomous vehicle software developer Oxbotica and Berlin-based self-driving vehicle developer Goggo Network have partnered to bring autonomous middle and last-mile deliveries to Europe.
The companies announced on Wednesday that Goggo plans to introduce Oxbotica’s operating system for autonomy in its fleet of on-road autonomous electric vehicles across the continent.
The first stage of the collaboration will see Goggo deploying Oxbotica’s autonomy software in Spain across middle-mile operations with key partners such as Carrefour, Día and Telepizza.
The success of these tests will be key for Goggo to include Oxbotica within its wider mobility network across cities in Europe, including those in France, the companies said.
Goggo and Oxbotica believe the collaboration will tackle current transport challenges, including high fuel costs and a shortage of drivers across Europe amid increasing demand for services as online shopping skyrockets.
Goggo plans to start operating with safety drivers to oversee its entire Autonomous Mobility Network in 2023.
Once the respective safety validations have been completed and regulatory clearance obtained, the company said it would make the transition to full autonomy.
