Interest rate decisions in the US will be the key focus for investors after the close of play in the UK.
Economists at ING said: “While the most prudent course of action may be to pause and digest the fallout from regional banking woes, the Federal Reserve is focused on inflation and will look to hike 25bp if conditions allow.”
Fed chief Jerome Powell opened the door to another 50bps hike due to “unacceptably high” inflation less than a fortnight ago.
Since then, the Silicon Valley Bank troubles have sparked fears of contagion, leading to a collapse in rate hike expectations for this Federal Open Markets Committee meeting and the future path of interest rates.
UK inflation data is also due, with headline CPI expected to slip below 10% whilst the core rate forecast is expected to hold firm at 5.8%.
Tonic manufacturer, Fevertree, will serve up full-year results that may be dampened by a subdued market in the UK.
The British company indicated that costs may rise for the manufacturing of its glass bottles as energy prices rise.
