Ryan Reynolds is the latest celebrity investor winner

Hollywood actor and Wrexham FC co-owner Ryan Reynolds is the latest celebrity investor to take home a hefty paycheck after a good investment paid off.

Reynolds is reportedly set to make about $300mln in cash and stocks from the sale of Mint Mobile, in which he is a part-owner, to T-Mobile.

But the Deadpool star is not the only celebrity investor to take home an impressive payday.

Billionaire rapper Jay-Z’s portfolio includes his champagne brand Armand de Brignac, estimated at $310mln, his cognac brand D'ussé, valued at $100mln, and his Roc National entertainment and sport management agency, which clocks in at about $75mln.

Actor George Clooney walked away with a $233mln profit after selling the tequila brand he founded with his friends Casamigos for US$1bln to Diageo in 2017.

Other successful celebrity investors in the alcohol space include MMA legend Conor McGregor with his Irish whiskey Proper No. Twelve, rapper Drake with his Virginia Black Decadent American Whiskey, actor Channing Tatum with Born and Bred Vodka, and Reynolds himself, who is the owner and chairman of Aviation Gin.

On the other hand, some pretty big names have had to deal with big losses when their gambles have not paid off.

NLF quarterback Tom Brady and his ex-wife, model Giselle Bundchen, are reportedly out about $70mln following the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX in which the couple were significant investors, it was revealed during bankruptcy proceedings.

Actor Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra Sedgwick lost “most” of their money in the infamous Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme which defrauded investors to the tune of about $65bln. Prior to the loss, the Footloose actor's net worth was estimated at more than $100mln.
