hVIVO PLC (AIM:HVO) said its Omicron human challenge agent has been successfully manufactured, expanding its portfolio, subject to characterisation study and regulatory approvals.
Formerly Open Orphan, hVIVO said it now has 11 unique human challenge models to test a broad range of infectious and respiratory disease products, according to a statement.
The AIM-listed contract research company added that it actively offers human challenge trials as part of its service and is in discussions with several existing and potential customers.
As announced last June, the model was developed with Vaxart to conduct a subsequent Omicron human challenge study to test the efficacy of Vaxart’s oral vaccine candidate.
However, Vaxart has decided to postpone further clinical trials, including the challenge study, to focus on developing an oral pan-betacoronavirus vaccine, according to hVIVO, which may provide improved protection against SARS-CoV-2.
HVIVO added that the Vaxart challenge study was not included in its order book and the postponement will not impact financial guidance.
