JP Morgan Chase is suing former Barclays boss Jes Staley to make him personally responsible for any potential links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Staley, who worked for JP Morgan for thirty years until 2013 when he left to head Barclays, had Epstein as one of his private banking accounts.
JP Morgan’s writ alleges Staley “repeatedly abandoned the interests of JP Morgan Chase and served his own and Epstein’s interests”.
The US bank is facing legal action from the US Virgin Islands and one personal claim from a woman abused by Epstein, who died in custody in 2019.
Staley “never disclosed to anyone at JP Morgan Chase that he had witnessed, was aware of, or participated in” any of the sex trafficking ventures, the lawsuit read.
The US bank also wants Staley to repay wages during the time of Epstein’s offences, adding it believes it is entitled to “punitive damages” in light of Staley’s conduct.
Staley stepped down from Barclays in 2021 to fight the Epstein allegations.
