Tesco forced to cancel orders after suffering ‘technical issue’

Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO) has been forced to cancel delivery orders after it suffered a nationwide ‘technical issue’, disgruntled customers have revealed.

The issue led to customers across the country being unable to receive their grocery deliveries and some reported being unable to rebook a slot until next week.

“Due to an intermittent technical issue, we've had to cancel some orders today. We're really sorry about this and are working hard to notify customers who are affected,” said a Tesco spokesperson.

The supermarket did not confirm whether it was a cyber-attack, something that has become more prevalent in recent months with companies such as Royal Mail cancelling all international deliveries in January after being hacked.

Many customers were left outraged after the supermarket said that it would take five working days before receiving a refund.

“With no advance warning, many people will be completely stuck without food and the funds to buy elsewhere,” said one shopper.

This follows research which found that one in seven Brits were skipping meals to save money as supermarket prices continue to rise.

Grocery inflation reached 17.1% in February, despite the FAO world food price index falling for eleven consecutive months.

Tesco prices have inflated by nearly 14% year-on-year according to the Which? food tracker.
